Part 5

Chapter 13
I enjoyed this chapter because I was always curious as to how the people in Germany did what they did about the Jews.
Chapter 14
This chapter provoked the question: why do bad things have to happen first before we take action and change?
Chapter 15
I think using Grant's experiment would help with getting donations and fundraisers.

Part 4

Chapter 11
I think our generation is similar to the young Boomers because we also "refuse to blindly accept the injustice that prevailed in our society" like the uprising in Furgeuson.
Chapter 12
I found it selfish that Reagan would fire all those people. It is similar to when parents yell at you for something dumb. I feel as if Reagan wasn't looking out for the country and their people, what he did was selfish.

Part 3

Chapter 9
After reading this chapter, I didn't realize how much trust I was putting into pilot's hands and I fly all the time.
Chapter 10
It is an odd and ironic paradox was my thought.

Part 2

Chapter 5
I think that school also motivates people with urgency and pressure by using due dates and grades, but look how well that works. The quote "we're built to work together" is one that I thought was interesting because it makes humans seem like we're robots and that we're built, not born. I related classical republicanism to this as well because they put the good of the community before an individual which is similar to what he was talking about.
Chapter 6
I thought this chapter was interesting because I couldn't quite find the relationship between how to be a good leader and the chemicals in our body. I found out that dopamine is very related to to leadership. I'm wondering though, how does dopamine know when to release itself for the right goal? I also wondered if a lack of dopamine is related to procrastination? I didn't realize until this chapter how vital oxytocin is.
Chapter 7
I have noticed that he likes to start chapters with stories, I think it's because he wants to keep our attention. The quote "many of us work in environments where members of the group don't care about one another's fate" made me wonder. I found it sad yet true but it also made me think, what made us like that where we don't care about the person next to us? Why are we like that?
Chapter 8
I started out this chapter with a question: how are leaders suppose to look out for people in our leadership class? My possible answers were: stand up and defend and protect people? Or sacrifice what they have earned for others?
I thought Chapman had a great quote "It is better that we all suffer a little, so that none of us has to suffer a lot". I really wish everyone thought that way because then the world would be a better place and no one would have to go through hardships alone again.

Part 1-Our Need to Feel Safe

I found this post enlightening because I learned new things and I related it to past jobs I had and how the situation was similar.
Chapter 1
A quote that stood out to me was "the will to succeed and the desire to do things that advance the interests of the organization aren't just motivated by recognition from above." This quote was interesting because people are very selfish these days and I assumed everyone does something so they can get recognition for it. I found it interesting that a strong foundation comes from empathy.
Chapter 2
I like that he started the chapter with another story, it really captures my attention. I thought it was extremely nice of Chapman to take time out of his busy day to talk to the employees, or he really cares about the success of his business, I can't tell which one it is. I found the term "fundamental goodness" interesting because I haven't heard it before. I think it means that everyone has goodness in them but I'm not sure so I looked it up. Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, I know, but I think they provide a very sound definition "personal wholesomeness and dedication to others". Another quote stood out to me which was "a new culture of caring allowed the people and strategies to flourish". It had me thinking about what would happen if that was applied to leadership?
Chapter 3
I related this chapter to the jobs that I had and I feel as if my superiors cared about me, instead of me fearing them,I could have had a better work experience. Also I found it humorous to ask your boss if he/she is okay right after they were finished yelling at you.
Chapter 4
I can relate to the working at a job you hate dilemma because I refuse to work a job I don't at least enjoy but I have to make money. When some days are rough, I had to tell myself to think about the money and it's worth. I completely agree with the statement that having a job you hate is bad. I remember before work one day I started crying because I hated what I did and I didn't want to go. I really enjoyed the studies in this chapter because they were interesting and I learned something new.

Intro

August 16th
My blog's purpose is to tell about my journey through reading the book "Leaders Eat Last". I thought the introduction into the book was very powerful. He begins by describing what a leader is and the sacrifices they make for the greater good. I did not know what being a real and true leader is until I reflected and read this passage, and I am inspired. I don't think people/follow realize what a leader really does for everyone and they don't get the recognition they deserve.
